Welcome to my MOPS friends!

Welcome everyone from MOPS joining me for the first time. I hope you all find something on this blog to help you. If you have any ideas or questions, please let me know.

Thanks for humoring me by letting me speak tonight. I had fun. One thing I forgot to mention is that Kmart in Portage will be having double coupons starting Sunday. They will double coupons up to 0.75. Just wanted you to know and have the information. If you ask me, it isn't such a great deal as their prices are often a little higher. You make the call.

Love you all!

Kendra

Groceries....mmm lots of fruit and veggies

Man, I love this time of year when it comes to food. The deals on fruits and veggies get better, and they taste so much better too.

Pierce's has the following sales I picked up:
cucumbers 4/$2
lettuce bag 0.99
Strawberries 2/$3
Roma tomato's 1.29/lb (ok not sooo cheap but a better price and better looking than the others)
French fries $1
Chuck steaks 2.18/lb
Pork chops boneless 2.18/lb
Roma pizza's 5/$9

Other than that, I just picked up my normal milk, bread, bagels and very little else. I have found that I am staying more on the periphery of the store vs going down all the isles!

My total was $51.53, and my coupon/ad savings was $38.26! A savings of nearly half by buying only what is on sale! And I am so excited that I came in under my budget of $70/wk for the family! Hard to believe that only a month or so ago I was planning to up the budget, but now I can easily stay under budget and we all eat well and have a fully stocked pantry and freezer. In fact, I can't fit anything else into the freezer at this point!

I am thinking of starting to post our meal plan each week to give you an idea of what we eat and how easy it can be to plan and keep it simple. What do you think? Is it something that would be helpful? Let me know by leaving me a comment.

Have a great week!

Walmart 4-30-09

A quick little jaunt into Walmart today...wanted to redeem a couple coupons!
  • CapriSun $1 MQ
  • Ortega 0.75/2 MQ
  • Right Guard Try free IP

Total was $11 something.....I paid $4.40 oop. And the soy milk was almost all of that!

Not Walgreen's....Target

Well folks....I was going to shop at Walgreen's this morning but frankly there were only 2 things I was going to buy so I decided to just skip it this week. I will definitely have to go next week in order to use my RR's before they expire.

One quick note to you Walgreen's fan....Last week the cashier told me the manager was 'cracking down' on using Register Rewards. A friend was also told that today. Apparently the new 'policy' at the Portage Walgreen's is they will only allow you one transaction when purchasing items that come with register rewards. Frankly, whatever. If they want me to run my stuff out to the van and then "remember" to go in and buy another basket of stuff I will.
Anyways, this is some of my purchases that I made at Target in Sun Prairie. I mentioned in an earlier blog that they have their own coupons you can stack with MQ, so that's what I did.
I know I need Mac and Cheese like a hole in the head, but I couldn't pass them up. I got 30 of them for a total of 40 cents. Not each...total for all 30. I will highlight the main match ups.
  • Easy Mac cups 0.77 each, $1/2 target, B2G1 MQ (0.40 total after coupons)
  • Kraft dressing 1.59, $1.50 MQ (0.09 after)
  • Kraft Mayo 1.99 each, $1/2 target, $1 ea MQ (were 0.49 each after)
  • Olay 2.49, $2 MQ
  • Muir Glen tomato paste $1.22 each, $1 each MQ
  • Pace salsa $2.50 each, had up to $4 off each (they gave me entire $4 off, so made $)
  • 3 boxes Spaghetti marked down to 0.36 each
  • 2 bags rice marked down to 0.72 each.
Like I said, I got some other items, but these were the biggie deals. My total was over $92, but at the end it was only $32. I saved over $60 this trip. I was bummed though, because the wheat thins were supposed to be on sale according to a blog I read, but they weren't at our local store. I was going to buy out their crackers! Maybe next time.
How is your Walgreen's trip this week? Are you finding any amazing deals or freebies out there? Let me know....leave a comment on the blog! Have a great week. I will try to get the grocery run downs out tomorrow.

A couple good deals

Hi all. I went to Walmart today and wanted to share a couple of coupon match ups that I found!

  • Caprisun Sunrise $1.97, use $1 MQ
  • Knorr rice sides 0.98, use $1/2 MQ
  • Ortega taco seasoning 0.52, 0.75/2 MQ
  • Chef Boyardee 0.88, $1/4 MQ
  • Scotch Bright single sponge 0.84, 0.75/2 MQ

Those were the main deals I found that match to recent coupons from the paper.

Will be back on Tuesday with my Walgreen's deals!

Pierce's 4-24-09

Here's the grub for the week!

Good deals include: Johnsonville brats 0.55 MQ, Old Orchard Juice $1/2 MQ, apples 0.25 store coupon, Taquitos $1 MQ, hot dogs. pork chops and chicken nuggets were on special as well.

Spent a total of $60.60, going over my budget by $6 for the month which is not too bad. (I took the money from my Walgreen's stash since I just earned a gift card there!). I saved a total of $32.73 with sales and coupons. What makes this trip even more exciting is that it including ingredients for appetizers for a get together I'm hosting this weekend as well, on top of my normal shopping list!

I am proud that I have been consistently saving about 30% by shopping sales and using coupons at the grocery store. We definitely have been getting a lot more for our money! If only we could have a grocery store that doubled coupons.....a girl can dream right?

How did your shopping trip go this week? How much did you save. Let me know!

Completing the circle!

Remember the prescription transfer coupons I told you about as a moneymaker? Well, I just wanted to let you all know that I just had them transferred to Walgreen's (from Kmart), thus completing the cycle...and I received my $25 gift card.

So to recap, I made $20 at Kmart and $25 at Walgreen's playing this game. FYI at Walgreen's, you are limited to one per person per 6 months.

Gee, what will I ever do with an extra $25 to spend at Walgreen's?????

Look at this!

Look at what arrived at my house last week! I was picked about a month ago to host a Werther's chocolate "House Party"!! I got 5 cases of caramel chocolate in dark and milk chocolate, note pads, a ton of coupons and a fleece blanket.

Awhile back, I decided to join house party online after reading about it on a blog. Little did I know that companies like to have people all over the country throw parties to introduce new products, for advertising and to create a buzz. I had to fill out a lengthy application, and then I was notified when I fit the profile for the company involved.

This is my first time throwing a house party, and it is scheduled for tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. There is no selling and no representative from the company is here. It is just me and some friends enjoying some comfort foods (including chocolate of course) and time to relax!

I can't wait for the fun in a quiet house! Everyone is invited, stop by around 1:00 on Saturday if you're in the neighborhood!

Walgreen's and a return to Kmart

Howdy folks! I didn't bother with a picture on the Walgreen's run, but here's what I got:

6 bx Kraft shells & cheese 2/$5 with ad coupon. I had a bunch of RR's to use, I pd 50 cents out of pocket total.

I would have done the degree trial size deal, but of course our Walgreen's only had 3 on hand. Another time I guess.

Then I ran Kmart. Some shampoo I bought on Sunday rang up about 80 cents too high. I got my difference refunded and they also gave me a $3 gift card for my time! Apparently their policy is if it rings up wrong you get $3 or the item for free if it is less than $3! Sweet! So I went ahead and bought the toilet paper I forgot on Sunday. I paid less than $1 out of pocket!

A good day overall! Very little actual money spent thanks to the return and RR's. How did your Walgreen's run go this week?

Kmart savings

Wowzer. I had such a blast at Kmart today! I think I saw at least 6 people I know shopping. Kristi and Meredith were cashing in on the double coupons. Luckily, they didn't take all the stuff I was looking for!

Take a look at all the loot! Back by popular demand, I will list the coupons I had as well. All coupons were doubled unless the item was less than that, then the item was free.

How did you do?

Groceries for the week

Ok, I am done with the shopping. I ran to both Piggly Wiggly (with 3 kids) and Pierce's (without kids). I definitely enjoyed the second trip.
Piggly Wiggly (bottom photo): I got 3- 3lb packs of the ground chuck to make burgers and for tacos/spaghetti etc, 11 of the 'buy 10 get 11' items on sale and some Quaker granola bars with a 75 cents off coupon. FYI everyone- the Pig is no longer taking internet coupons....UGH!

Total there was $30.57 with savings of $10.60 using card and coupons.

Pierce's (top photo): I picked up 2 more bags of boneless/skinless chicken for $4.88, 4 Kraft mac 'n cheese (weekend special for ? 49 cents), lettuce (48 cents ea weekend only price), crackers with coupon, bagels 4/$5, Bacon 1.98 (weekend special), carrots, tomatos, apples, butter (to freeze) and fries.
Total there was $40.37, with coupon and card savings of $24.93.
Overall, I am very pleased. I still have $53.00 left and only one more week to go before I refill the monthly shopping envelope. As a reminder, I only budget $70 per week~ sometimes I go over, sometimes under but it averages out over the course of the month. This seems to be a very comfortable amount for our family. But keep in mind, each family is different and your stockpile may be more or less than mine!
Looking forward to Kmart doubles tomorrow. Check out the webpages I follow (under profile) for some coupon match ups for Kmart. Happy Shopping!

Pay It Forward Video

I finally had time to check the website to find my video, when I see that I am a 'featured video' on the webpage. I hope they mean they liked my idea! Thought you all that are following my challenge would like to see me in action, so click here to see it!

Now if only I could figure out how to load my video onto this blog or facebook, then I'd really be in business! Anyone know how to do that?

Ad review

Only have time for a quickie review. Keep in mind I only list what I think are good deals that I would buy.

First up is Pierce's.
  • Ground Chuck $1.88/lb
  • Boneless/skinless chicken breast $4.88/3lb
  • Dole lettuce 0.48
  • Hunts Ketchup 0.98
  • Patrick Cudahy bacon $1.98
  • Bush's baked beans 2/$3
  • Kraft pasta salad 0.88- I think there are MQ's out there
  • Farmland Pork Sausage 4/$5
  • Jiffy corn muffin mix 2/$1
  • Surefine pasta 0.99
  • Watermelon 0.48/lb

Piggly Wiggly (yes, I think I will run there this week) They are having a buy 11/$10 sale, you must buy 10 to get the 11th free. Otherwise you will pay $1 each.

  • There are tons of things for $1 including half gallon milk, BBQ sauce, baked beans, pasta, pudding, bread, manwich~ you choose your favorites!
  • Ground Chuck $1.69/lb
  • Lay's potato chips BOGO
  • Quaker granola bars 2/$4, MQ for $1/2
  • apples 0.99/lb

That is all I see folks, but I may have missed some things. My trip will probably be pretty small, although I plan to stock up on hamburger! The freezer is getting low.

Target goodies

I'm not sure if you all know this, but Target runs their own coupons. You can find them online and on many other coupon sites like hotcouponworld.com as well. The beauty of their coupons is that you can "stack" them with manufacture coupons. Combine that with the item being on sale and you are in business! That's what I did today.

Here is the run down: MQ-manufacture coupon. target-target printable coupon

  • 2 storage bins 0.99
  • 2 All detergent 3.99: $2 MQ, $1 target
  • 1 Johnson's buddies shampoo $3.34: $1 MQ, 0.75 target
  • 7 Johnson's buddies soap $1.12: $1 MQ, 0.75 target
  • 1 Dry Idea deodorant $2: $2 MQ
  • 4 Colgate toothpaste trial size 0.50: 0.75 MQ
  • 6 Teddy Grahams $2: $1/2 MQ, $1 target
  • 6 Target fruit snacks 0.89: $1 target
  • 2 V8 Fusion juice $2.99: $2 MQ
  • 1 True Delight bars 2.89: $1 MQ
  • 2 Kraft Shells & Cheese $1.50: no coupon
  • 8 Kraft Easy Mac 0.77: 1 $1/2 MQ, $1/2 target
  • 2 Lipton rice mix 0.99: $1/2 MQ
  • 1 Quaker oatmeal bar 2.69: no coupon
  • 2 Starkist pouches $1: no coupon
  • 3 Sand buckets for the kids $1 each with no coupons!

My total before coupons was $87.51, with the final out of pocket total of $22.99! Doing the math, that means I saved $60.97 in coupons!

A thank you to Rachael for the heads up on the Colgate toothpaste moneymaker! As you can see, I got a lot of this for free and/or very cheap by spending a little time checking out the coupons. I did miss out on having 'mommy' time during this trip as my youngest has decided to get pink eye again (despite not ever being around anyone with it), so I had the pleasure of his company on this trip as we then made a detour to the doctor's office. Now we get to experience the drama again of 4 times a day screaming...I mean drops.

On another note, I spend some of my 'pay it forward' money at Target. I again got about $20 worth of stuff and paid around $7 for it all. When it's all done, I will post a picture with the link to the bank. More on that later.

Don't forget that Kmart will be doubling coupons again here in Portage starting this Sunday, and the grocery store ads come out tomorrow. I will try to get the reviews up by bedtime Wednesday. Until then, happy shopping!

Walgreen's on Easter

Happy Easter everyone!

Hope you all had a great time celebrating with family and friends!

I had fun at Walgreen's today. My out of pocket seems pretty high, but I will explain. First off, here's what I bought:

4 Lysol BOGO with 3-50 cents IP coupons (there is also a $3 mail in rebate through the company)
2 Folgers instant coffee $4.99 with ad, 50 cents MQ
4 Skippy BOGO peanut butter, had 3-40 cents MQ
1 Chapstick Naturals
1 Fiberchoice
2 Colgate toothbrush, 2-$1 MQ
1 Tuf garbage bags
I did a total of 2 transactions, in the first I bought the garbage bags and one toothbrush (so I could get 2 free toothbrushes). All the rest was in the 2nd transaction.
My out of pocket total was $30.63. My total in coupons and ad savings was $38.29 (yah, I saved more than I spent!!). Plus I also earned $11.50 in RR to roll next week ($3.50 x2 for toothbrushes, $2 for chapstick, and $2.50 for Fiberchoice).
Let me know the deals you snagged this week by leaving a comment. Be sure to leave your name! I am headed to Target this week to check out some deals there, I'll be sure to fill you in!

First trip to pay forward

As I previously announced, I am completing a "Pay it Forward" challenge through my local bank to see how much food I can get for the Portage food pantry. I thought I would just share my first shopping trip using the $10 I was given.

My before coupon total was $19.88, and my final out of pocket after coupons was 88 cents!! I've got the receipt to prove it too! Best of all, I still have $9.12 to work with and a few weeks to go!

I'm so excited already for the stash I have, and I can't wait to see my final outcome! I will keep you all posted.

Kmart!!!!!

Just to let everyone in my area know, Kmart will again be doing double coupons starting next weekend, April 21st! Time to start thinking ahead and planning your trip! Look to the higher value coupons for the best deals. Not sure what the double limit will be yet. More details to come as I hear them!

My grocery trip 4-10-09

First off let me say that I sat down and planned my meals for next week and discovered that other than bread, milk and a few fresh veggies, I didn't need any other groceries for this week! That is one of the awesome benefits I have found when I stock up on items when they are cheap!

That being said, there were a few sales I didn't want to miss because of my coupons so I did buy a few more things than needed. I also bought another ham because I've been nervous about having enough on hand today for the family~ and I love leftovers. This way I'm sure there will be enough for today and many leftovers for the future!

Items I had coupons on were: Pringles $1/2, Cinnamon rolls .40, Wheat Thins $1/2, Old Orchard juice $1/2.

My total out of pocket amount was $45.31, with a coupon and savings amount of $38.77. A total savings of 46% for this week!

How did you do this week? I am looking forward to my Walgreen's trip this week, I have a few days to wait though!

Pay It Forward Challenge

Summit Credit Union here in southern Wisconsin is running a pay it forward challenge now until the end of May. Today was the day I signed up!

Each person answers the question "If Summit CU gave you $10 what would you do with it?" My answer along with everyone else's will be posted on their website. People can then vote on the best idea and the winner gets $500 for themselves and $500 to donate to a charity or organization.

I filmed my idea and was promptly give $10 in order to complete the challenge. My idea was to use my couponing skills to see how much food and other non-perishables I can get with the money to donate to the Portage food pantry!

I am so excited to do this and look forward to maximizing the money! I already have a list together of freebies to pick up this weekend.

As soon as they email me the link I will share it with you. Maybe you will be inspired to "Pay it forward" as well!

ConAgra coupon book

Heard about this deal to pass along....

Sign up for this deal here to get a $10 coupon book. Rumor has it you will get a coupon for free Katsup!

Keep in mind you may want to set up a different email (like yahoo or gmail) because many times they will email you weekly or monthly with offers. I set up a gmail account just for this and it keeps my main email free of all the clutter.

Signing up with these companies will usually give you access to coupons online and many times they are a higher value than the ones from the newspaper!

Walgreen's~ what could have been

Today is the day I normally go to Walgreen's. However, I had another errand to run and I just hate spending my day off work running everywhere. When I took a long hard look at my list, I decided I would just skip Walgreen's this week and pick it up again next week.

However, I still wanted to share what I would have bought and what the deal prices are.

BOGO Hellmann's mayo for $5.99. I couldn't find any coupons for this.
Betty Crocker frosting: 2/$3, use 2 $0.50 MQ and get $1 RR. Final cost $1 for 2.
Oust Sanitizer spray $2.99 each, use $2 MQ and mail in rebate $1 each. Final cost FREE
Cottonelle Wipes $1.99 each, MQ for $1/2. Final cost $3 for 2 boxes.
Duracell batteries $2.99 each, MQ $1 off (from P&G coupon book), Final cost $1.99 each.
Schick Xtreme3 disposable razors $6.99 ea. Combine the $3 MQ with a $2 Easy Saver coupon and use the BOGO MQ. Final cost $1.99 for 2 packs or free if the $2 coupon scans twice!
Playtex tampons $3,99. Use $1 MQ and $1 Easy Saver coupon. Final cost $1.99.
Colgate Total 4 oz $3.49 each. Use $0.75 MQ and get $3.49 RR, final cost: better than FREE.

Those are the only deals that interested me, but I have too much toothpaste, razor and other stuff on hand so I don't need any right now. Be sure to leave a comment and let me know how you did at WAGS this week!

Have a great day! I hope to post the grocery deals tomorrow when I get the flyer!

Olay coupons

Hey folks! Does anyone out there use Oil of Olay and need coupons? I have a ton of them, and some do not expire until late in the year. Please let me know if you want them, they are yours!

Walmart update for Portage folks!

Thanks to Beth, for making the calls and talking to the local Walmart manager.

It seems that the Portage Walmart is taking internet coupons, and have apologized for the confusion this past week. It seems they are taking them on a case by case basis, and reserve the right to refuse an internet coupon if fraud is suspected.

In the meantime, if the cashier refuses your internet coupon you should request they call their manager on duty to clarify.

Please keep me updated if anyone out there has any problems using these coupons, but for now I guess I don't have to open a can of whop-ass.......yet!

Make money with prescriptions

Hi all. Just a quick update to let you know about another money making opportunity that exists out there. A few weeks ago in the Kmart and Walgreen's ad, there were coupons for an incentive on a new or transferred prescription. I cut out those ads in hopes of running this deal.

Hubby just got Rx's renewed by the doctor so I had them phoned in to Kmart pharmacy. These are prescriptions we must buy every month. When I picked them up I used 2 Kmart coupons for a $10 gift card with a new prescription. So I now have $20 in Kmart gift cards in my wallet for use anytime (other than paying for that prescription).

When it is time to refill again later this month, I will use my Walgreen's coupon as it will now be considered a 'transferred' prescription. The Walgreen's coupon is for a $25 gift card to be used in the store. So by the end of April I will have earned $35 for prescriptions I have to buy anyways!! Isn't that cool?

The stores don't run this special all the time, and I notice that the Walgreen's coupon does limit redeeming this type of reward to once every 6 months. Just thought I'd let you all know, this is the first time I've done this, although I've read about other moms doing it.

Do you know any other "different" ways to earn money or rewards? Let me know so I can share with others!

Grocery deals 4-4-09

Wow! I got some great deals, so much stuff I had to take two separate pictures!
They had a lot of meat on sale, some of which are a Saturday-Monday only. Here's the rundown on the meat:
3# boneless/skinless chicken breasts: $4.38 per bag (I got 6)
BOGO Hormel pork sirloin roast at 2.99/lb. (I was able to find 2 1# roasts)
Ham 88 cents/lb (I got a 1.28lb ham)
Beef round steak 2.88/lb (found 2 pks that were less than a pound)
Roma pizza's 5/$9- got 5

Other deals: Surefine (SF) cheese blocks $0.88, SF cream cheese $0.89, cauliflower $0.88/lb, Uncle Ben's Rice 2/$3- used $1/2 IP, organic apples 3# bag $2.50, Cascade Rinse-free with MQ, eggs 99 cents/doz.
Those are the highlights. A bunch of other things too. Now, I went over my weekly budget, but got a ton of freezer meat so I will again be set for awhile. My next couple weeks should be much lower totals due to that.
I spent $100.32. However I saved $53.18 with sales and coupons. My savings overall was 35%!
How did your shopping go this week? Let me know. I will try to start my Pierce's review this upcoming week so we can all plan our trips together!
check out more money saving deals here!

Walmart run

Howdy folks. We made a quick run to Walmart so I was able to find a couple deals to share with you.

4 Kraft Ranch $1.58 each: use $1.50 off MQ from last weekend and they are 8 cents each
6 Johnson's Buddies soap 97 cents: used 2 $3/3 internet coupons= free
2 No Yolks noodles $1.68 each: used 75 cents off MQ
3 Softsoap (only scent on sale) $1 each: used 35 cents off MQ
1 box Seapack shrimp poppers $1.32: used $1 off MQ
1 K-Y $2.64: used $3 MQ
6 5pks of Koolaid $0.88 each: no coupon
So my total before coupons was $27.74, after coupons was $10.11. I saved over $17 in coupons!! Good score.
I want to also alert my readers of a potential hassle at Walmart. According to one of my friends, they refused to accept internet coupons on her visit. She called the store manager who said they have experienced some coupon fraud and were no longer going to take them. A call to Walmart headquarters told her that each store can decide their own coupon accepting policies.
Obviously, this is distressing news for anyone shopping the portage Walmart. We have so few shopping options as it is, and this would really complicate things. On this trip, my cashier did take my 2 internet coupons. But if they refuse you on a future visit, I suggest you ask to see the manage and demand clarification. Plus let me know! I will wage an email and telephone war with walmart as needed to lobby for a better coupon policy. We can do it! Moms are a very powerful group as they decided most of the spending in the family. If needed, I may call on all of you to assist me. In the meantime, use your coupons responsibly so we can have as many options as possible!
Please contact me if you have any questions!

Joining this century

Yes, I have finally gotten my new computer up and running! Why is this exciting? I can now print Internet coupons!! You don't know how happy this makes me!

I intend to start linking some of these sites where you can print coupons and match them to some current deal prices at the local grocery stores. That way we can all start saving some cash! An FYI, you will need to install the 'coupon printer' software when prompted prior to printing online coupons.

Welcome to a couple of new readers that I have, please feel free to leave me comments and/or join to follow this site! Glad to have you aboard!
